david; 3/22/14- while holding my wife as she suffers through the worst attack of chest spasms since the onset of shingles 10 years ago- as she struggles to breathe, barks with pain, and pants between spasms; I’m thinking WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT? FUCKING GODDAMNED UNIVERSE WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS? DID YOU STOP TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WHEN YOU CREATED THIS MESS? IF the entity that exploded ITself in the Big Bang did it for the fun of being exploding novas, bubbling nebulae and black holes, then did whatever created the Life Force know or care about the suffering that ensued? Life has suffered for billions of years on this planet alone mindlessly killing and eating each other. There is a qualitative difference between the suffering of mindless lower forms and the suffering of we who are AWARE! Is this “God’s Plan”?

Most life from the bacteria to the arthropods just create billions of offspring mindlessly. At some point parents started caring about their young. How much does a fish, which has so little memory capacity that it doesn’t remember the last time it swam around its tank care about the eggs that it guards? What does an alligator mother feel as she tenderly, with her mouth full of jagged teeth, carries her babies to the water? Mammals show stress we can recognize when something bad happens to their offspring. We humans are extremely attached to our children even to the point of sacrificing ourselves for them.
In a world of suffering, pain, death, starvation, abuse and genocide, the best we can do is, love each other… our destruction of the planet we inhabit is just an extension of the billions of years of fecundly eating/fucking/CHOMP! we have endured.
